It wasn't a question on the test, but in the Rita book, they asked a question about autonomic dysreflexia, and what should you do. Their answer? Empty the catheter bag. As an entry-level therapist I have no freaking clue how to do that. My solution? Call a nurse pronto! In fact, I'm sure I'd make the situation worse. Some of the specific splinting questions are also ridiculous, and only seem appropriate for those who have been working in a hand clinic, not entry-level therapists. Too many questions were very interpretive. Some of the questions I wouldn't have done any of the options. I think one of OT's biggest strengths and biggest weakness is how broad it is. There is just too much to know, that no entry level therapist could possibly retain. PS Does anyone else feel that their school should have done a little more to help with the test?
